Find your target paper size in the chart and note the dimensions in millimetres — mm is the most reliable unit when setting up print documents because it avoids rounding errors that occur when converting to inches. Set your document to exactly those dimensions in your design app before adding any content.

If you are sending a file to a commercial printer, add 3 mm bleed on all four sides beyond the document boundary. Bleed is extra artwork that extends past the trim line so that after the paper is cut, no thin white border appears at the edge. The printer trims to the page boundary; the bleed ensures colour runs all the way to the cut edge.

A-series paper follows a consistent halving pattern: A3 is exactly two A4 sheets side by side, A4 is two A5 sheets, and so on. This makes A-series especially useful when designing content that needs to scale up or down consistently — a design that works on A5 can be placed two-up on A4 without any resizing.
