About

Built by an artist who kept printing blurry files

ArtistTool is a free collection of calculators and guides for digital artists, print sellers, and designers. It was built to solve the sizing and resolution problems that waste hours in real production workflows.

Georgos Karis

Indie developer & digital artist · NiceSoftware AS

I have been making digital art and preparing files for print-on-demand platforms for over a decade. Early on I kept ordering prints that arrived soft and pixelated, not because the artwork was bad, but because I did not have a reliable way to check DPI, canvas size, and export settings before uploading.

ArtistTool started as the internal toolkit I built to stop making those mistakes. Over time it grew into a full site covering print sizing, aspect ratios, social media specs, and beginner guides for artists just starting to sell online.

I run ArtistTool through my company NiceSoftware AS, a small software business focused on practical tools for creative workflows. Everything on the site is free to use and maintained by me personally.

Outside of ArtistTool, I paint under the name Georg Óskar — mainly oil and cold wax, out of a studio in Oslo. That practice is where the Painting section of this site comes from: technique guides and a running history of Icelandic painting, written from the material side rather than the production side.

Nice Software AS also builds a small family of studio apps under Studio Instruments — an art scanner and archive, a pigment and oil-stick formulation calculator, and a painter's mirror-check tool — built to solve problems in my own studio first. See the full list.

What I bring to this

  • 10+ years in digital art and print production — from small Etsy printable listings to gallery-quality giclée prep and large-format poster files.
  • Hands-on marketplace experience — I have shipped files to print-on-demand labs, prepared listings for Etsy, Redbubble, and Society6, and debugged every common sizing mistake firsthand.
  • Software development background — the calculators on this site are built and tested by me, not generated. Formulas are verified against real print lab outputs before they go live.
  • Beginner-first editorial approach — I write guides the way I wish someone had explained things to me: plain language, real examples, no unnecessary jargon.

Editorial standards

Every calculator on ArtistTool is verified with real pixel and print values before publishing. Guides are updated when platform specifications, print standards, or common workflow practices change. I do not publish advice I have not personally tested in a real production context.

  • Formulas are checked against actual print lab outputs and platform upload results.
  • Content is revised when Etsy, YouTube, Instagram, or print suppliers update their specs.
  • Beginner guides are written to minimise assumed knowledge and explain the underlying reason, not just the number.
